GUANGDONG runners again dominated the junior events in the prestigeous Hong Kong International Golden Mile Race held annually around the office blocks in the heart of Central.
Lian Jianguo showed plenty of potential when he sprinted away from teammate Li Honjun halfway through the race to win the boys' race in four minutes and 19 seconds, shaving seven seconds off the course record.
Jianguo was a distant second in 4:29 with Macau's Wang Fei filling the minor position only five seconds behind.
Wang Lixing and Luo Yanping also completed a one-two finish for Guangdong in the girls' race with the former setting a new course record of five minutes flat, bettering the three-year-old mark by three seconds.
Wang Wai-chi saved some pride for Hong Kong by winning the bronze, breasting the tape only one second ahead of Cheng Yuet-ting in 5:48.
Diocesan Boys' School won the highly competitive boys' inter-school relay race in 3:43, beating off a strong challenge from Chong Gene Hang College with St Stephen's College taking third place.
