Awards recognise outstanding performances by aspiring stars
Badminton player Wong Wing-ki, golfer Chan Tsz-ching, and mentally challenged swimmers Lee Tsun-sang and Tang Chui-fan won the  Hong Kong Sports Institute Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards for the third quarter of this year.
The prize presentation was held last month at the Cornwall Street Squash and Table Tennis Centre in Kowloon Tong.
Wong, a full-time athlete, had already won the award for the first quarter this year.
He claimed his second title after some outstanding performances over the past few months. Wong was in good form at the Badminton  Asia Youth Under-19 Championships 2008 in July, winning two bronze medals.
'Winning the award is very encouraging for me,' Wong said. 'I would like to thank head coach Chan Chi-choi and my teammates for their support. Of course, my parents also played a significant role and supported my decision to become a full-time athlete.'
Wong has set his sights on the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
Tsz-ching ranked fourth out of 87 participants in the girls' division (age 13-14) at the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships held in the United States in July.
The Form Three student took up golf at the age of seven. Tsz-ching was 10 when she came second in her first overseas event. 'I'm very happy my hard work has been recognised. This award will encourage me to work even harder,' she said.
Swimmer Tsun-sang, who won the award for the first time, said it would boost his confidence. 'The award gives recognition to junior athletes and the efforts they have put in. This will help us strive for sporting excellence,' he said.
Chui-fan was also happy her efforts had been rewarded.
'I hope to represent Hong Kong at the 2012 Paralympic Games,' she said.
Each recipient received a cash prize of HK$2,500, a sports gear voucher worth HK$2,500 and a certificate.
In addition, badminton player Chan Tsz-ka, gymnast Hui Pui-kuen, squash players Ho Ka-po and Tong Tsz-wing and table tennis star Lee Ho-ching were each presented  a certificate of merit in recognition of their outstanding performances.



Juniors rewarded for their hard work
