Younger investors sue banks
Five younger investors in Lehman Brothers-linked derivatives filed claims yesterday against banks that they allege cheated them. Most investors who have reached settlements with the banks and other claimants are over 50. Yesterday's claimants, aged from 33 to 44, filed their claims at the Small Claims Tribunal with assistance from the Democratic Party. They are each claiming about HK$40,000.
Police recruitment fast-tracked
Police are launching a fast-tracked recruitment drive to fill 52 probationary inspectors' posts and 414 constables' jobs, and successful candidates will be training at the academy as early as March. The initiative comes as an immediate response to Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen's package to boost the economy and create more than 60,000 jobs, announced on Monday.
Cargo firm sees workload fall
Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals, the largest air cargo ground handler at the airport, handled 203,074 tonnes of cargo last month, down 19 per cent year on year.
