Rivals Las Vegas, Atlantic City on an unlucky streak

Things in the world's second-biggest casino gaming market are looking even bleaker than in Macau.

Figures out this week show gaming revenue on the Las Vegas Strip fell for the 10th straight month, by 25.8 per cent in October.

Casino revenue has fallen 8.5 per cent to US$5.2 billion in the year to date, putting the strip on track for its worst year since officials started keeping track of figures in the early 1980s.

Interesting to note that the big underperformer was baccarat revenue, the most popular game among Asian high rollers. Baccarat gross volumes fell 36 per cent, but the house played unlucky, so net casino winnings from the card game plunged 63 per cent.

Things aren't looking much better in Atlantic City, New Jersey, where revenue dropped 7.8 per cent in November and is down 6.7 per cent in the year to date.
