Boots are a staple in every woman's winter wardrobe, and ever since style icons Sienna Miller and Kate Moss wore skinny jeans tucked into boots, they have become a certified fashion statement. Boots come in various shapes and sizes - knee highs, ankle boots, riding boots - and every season one or two styles in particular make it into the fashion must-have list. This autumn, the ankle boot reigns supreme, preferably with cut outs or bondage details with studs. Another popular style is the thigh-high from brands such as Christian Louboutin and Gucci, which I must confess, are a bit too Pretty Woman for me. Popular styles I have spotted around town include cowboy boots, fringed suede boots and flat styles made from patent leather to jazz up traditional nappa leather styles. I love the black leather riding boots Linda (right) bought from Miu Miu in Paris. She matched them with grey stone-washed skinny jeans and a loose-fitting cardigan, long scarf and oversized handbag. This look is fresh and modern, reminiscent of stars Ashlee Simpson and Hilary Duff. Theresa (far left) and Kit (near left) wear different styles, but both look great. Theresa opted for a grunge look by pairing her flat, brown mid-calf boots with leggings, an oversized grey dress and another must-have item, an animal print scarf. I like how her boots are made from distressed leather, giving them an aged look, while the straps also add a vintage feel. Kit, on the other hand, chose to play it safe by pairing her suede camel fringed mid-calf boots with a simple black turtleneck and blue jeans. When choosing an outfit to match your boots, the key word to remember is balance. The higher the hemline, the longer the boot should be, and vice versa. For example, pairing ankle boots with shorts is a big no-no. If you are pairing your boots with skinny jeans or leggings, always add volume on top with a slouchy oversized sweater or make it more formal with a tuxedo blazer. Boots are everywhere at the moment and now the sales are in full swing you can pick up a pair at a reasonable price. Zara stock a range of styles from trendy biker boots to more classic leather. For vintage-inspired styles, I would recommend Italian brand Golden Goose at On Pedder. Each style is handmade and looks worn in. I found a great pair of rugged boots by Fiorenti + Baker at designer parallel import boutique Twist (No 2-8 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2577 9323). If it's something suede and fringed that you want, Minnetonka is the brand celebs love (available from Sogo, 555 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 2833 8338). The newly opened Cotton On (Lan Kwai Fong, Central) has adorable suede fringe moccasin boots that only cost HK$200.
