We all have our special qualities. It is this uniqueness that causes conflict among us. We play different roles in society, and this brings about different views. Employers want their workers to be efficient, while employees just want to earn a living. Parents want their children to work hard for a brighter future, while the kids just want to be themselves. We have different characters and different attitudes towards others. Different opinions often create arguments. To avoid conflict, we should try to understand and respect the others' viewpoints and the roles they have to play. We should not be angry when others criticise our behaviour. We should be grateful that everybody is unique. Otherwise, life would be very boring. We should learn to live in harmony with others. Many people are indeed afraid of differences. Some are afraid of the difference in skin colour, background or language. Others are afraid of a difference in religion or morals. Unfortunately, some people see difference as being wrong and try to enforce their ways on others. This can lead to conflict which could spiral into violence, war and death. You are quite right when you say we should learn to live in harmony with others. The world would certainly be a better place for it. Susan, Editor
