Many celebrities opted to marry in the Year of the Rat. Movie star Tony Leung Chiu-wai and his actress girlfriend of 23 years, Carina Lau Kar-ling, tied the knot in majestic style in Bhutan in July. Pop star Kelly Chen married Alex Lau, her boyfriend of 16 years, in October, and former Miss Hong Kong Michelle Reis married her millionaire boyfriend Julian Hui, Pansy Ho's ex-husband, in November.

While Reis was celebrating her happily ever after, rumours swirled around her former lover, tycoon Joseph Lau Luen-hung, that he was the father of his assistant Kimby Chan Ho-wan's newborn daughter.

Television star Carol 'Dodo' Cheung broke up with singer David Lui Fong after 16 years together. Another golden couple, writer Joe Nieh and retired pop star Vivian Chow, ended a 19-year romance after Nieh was caught kissing a young girl in a bar. However, yesterday the couple announced they will be getting married.

Comedienne and TVB icon Lydia Shum Din-ha, or Fei Fei, died of cancer on February 19. A memorial service was held in the Hong Kong Coliseum and was broadcast live on television.

The Jolie-Pitt clan has a new addition! Four months after giving birth to twins Knox and Vivienne, Angelina has told producers she is pregnant again. Jolie and Brad already have six children - Maddox who was adopted from Cambodia, Zahara from Ethiopia, Pax from Vietnam, Shiloh, their biological child, and the twins. Jolie, known for her humanitarian work with the United Nations and other charities, has said she wanted more children after the twins were born.

Australian actor Heath Ledger, famous for his role in Brokeback Mountain, was found dead in his New York apartment in January at the age of 28. He suffered an accidental overdose of prescription medication. He was reported to be having trouble sleeping prior to his death. Ledger finished filming his role as The Joker in The Dark Knight a few months before his death. He is survived by former fiancee Michelle Williams and their daughter Matilda.
