Canto-pop sweetheart Vivian Chow Wai-man has agreed to marry long-time boyfriend Joe Nieh just a week after they announced their break-up after Nieh was caught kissing a 21-year-old student at a nightclub.

The dramatic U-turn in the story, which has been the talk of the town for the past two weeks, came yesterday in a statement to the media.

'Shaken from my wayward ways, I've learned how to be determined. Having lost, I've learned how to cherish,' wrote Nieh, 44, a pool hall owner and occasional author and radio personality.

'This episode has made us realise the love we have for each other. The pressure around us has made us understand that we are inseparable. Vivian promised to marry me. We have already registered for marriage.'

A spokesman for Chow's management firm said the reason Nieh issued the statement was that the couple wanted to be accountable to the public.

Later in the day, Nieh was seen driving to Chow's Happy Valley home, where a large number of reporters were waiting.
