A pay agreement covering 330 Watsons Water workers was reached last night after five hours of negotiations, the workers' union said. The employees will be given a seasonal bonus ranging from HK$480 to HK$1,200, depending on performance. Originally, the workers had demanded a salary increase but had decided against pursuing this due to the financial crisis. Earlier, more than 70 workers had protested outside the company's headquarters in Tai Po, saying the firm had refused to offer them a pay rise promised earlier this year. The union said the company had promised workers from the distilled water department in June it would raise their basic salary. The union said earlier it had negotiated with the management for more than two months but had failed to reach any conclusion. It said the firm only promised to offer each worker a HK$450 bonus for the last quarter of the year, if they stayed injury-free.
