In her latest film, All About Women, Diana Kwai Lun-mei plays a rebellious 19-year-old rock star - her most challenging role to date.
'I thought I'd have to wait a long time before I was offered a script like this - becoming a rock star is every girl's dream. I really wanted the role because the character was so different from anything else I'd played,' the 24-year-old Taiwanese actress said.
Kwai (left) was required to do a lot of extra training. One of her most daunting tasks was learning to ride a motorcycle and looking the part of a biker. 'I don't think I'll ever ride a motorcycle again. Although I didn't need to go fast, it was still terrifying. Every time I started the engine, the front wheel would lift off the ground. It was hard enough trying to keep my balance, but with another actor riding pillion, it was really tough,' said Kwai.
The actress was worried initially that her fans might not like her in the role.
'People tend to see me as a little bit of a goody-goody, but all I really want is to become an actress who can handle different roles - that's the fun part of acting,' she said.
'Acting, for me, is like an adventure. Every time I get a new script, I look for the part in me that connects with the character. I hope my fans can appreciate my efforts, accept that I'm changing and grow with me.'
