South African Coenie Van Wyk returns a forehand against Sean Cooper during yesterday's men's singles tennis final at the Hong Kong National Championships at Victoria Park. The 31-year-old Van Wyk, who arrived in March and once held an ATP ranking of 602, beat Cooper 6-7 (7-9), 6-3, 6-2. 'I am absolutely delighted to have won my first Hong Kong title,' said Van Wyk, who upset defending champion Goran Bosalevski in the semi-finals. 'My semi against Goran was a very demanding game so I was happy to have reached the final,' said the South African, who blew a 6-3 lead in the first-set tiebreaker. Wu Ho-ching beat 13-year-old Katherine Ip Chan 7-5, 6-3 to win the women's final.
