The boyfriend of a missing Canadian tourist has flown to Hong Kong to search for her, and he praised local people for helping him.

Wenddell Walsh yesterday scoured the Causeway Bay area for news of Ani Ashekian, the 30-year-old Toronto woman who travelled to Asia in late October, but did not return home this month as planned.

Ms Ashekian sent a text message to a relative from Hong Kong on November 10, the same day HK$3,000 was withdrawn from her Visa account from an ATM at Causeway Bay MTR station.

Immigration information indicated she arrived on November 9 but had not left, her family said.

Mr Walsh said: 'I flew over not knowing what to expect and, since I've acquired this support group of strangers that are helping me, I have a lot of hope.'

Around 15 people - who do not know Ms Ashekian but learned of her story through the media and a Facebook page - joined Mr Walsh in handing out fliers. They also visited various hostels.

The flier offers a reward of HK$50,000 for information revealing Ms Ashekian's whereabouts.
