Cherie Yu Hoi-dick of Simply Art School had the competition licked at last month's 2009 International Postage Stamp Design Contest in South Korea.
The 12-year-old not only took the Award of Excellence for under 18-year-olds, her design will also be issued on postage stamps in Korea next year.
This year's contest saw nearly 6,500 entries from 27 countries in the youth category, which had the theme 'Asia that becomes one through stamps'.
Among the other winners was another Hong Kong student, nine-year-old Sabrina Lu, who took a Special Prize.
An excited Cherie said her only regret was that she was unable to attend the prize-giving ceremony at the Korea Post building. This was held on December 9 during her school exams.
Cherie's design features four people from different Asian countries holding hands. Above them, their national flags are joined in a heart-shape to express harmony and love.
Cherie, who was awarded a certificate of merit and a 2 million won (HK$11,981) prize, said she was looking forward to the release of the stamp she had designed. Sabrina took home a 500,000 won prize. She said she was thrilled to be able to attend the prize ceremony as it was her first visit to South Korea
