Brazilian alternative rock band Cansei de Ser Sexy, also known as CSS, recently released Donkey, their second international album. It contains a number of catchy tracks reminiscent of Blondie, the 70s group from New York. The band picked up their strange name, which translates as 'tired of being sexy', from a statement attributed to Beyonce Knowles. CSS got their big break when one of their songs was used in an amateur clip for the iPod Touch that was posted on YouTube by 18-year-old Nick Haley. The clip impressed Apple so much they asked Haley to remake it for international release, and the band received global recognition. Opener Yager Yoga is a classic rock song with a strong drum beat and guitar work. It provides the perfect start to the album. Left Behind starts off with an 80s-like electronica intro, with heavy synthesiser sounds, before evolving into a solid rock melody. I Fly is a great dance number that has a fast tempo, great guitar riffs and a rocking beat. The first single is Rat is Dead (Rage), a song about domestic violence that verges on grunge, and available as a free download from the band's website, if you want a sample.
