Literally means 'mountain village'

Used to refer to a clan of outlaws in a far-flung mountain outpost or disillusioned farmers who launched uprisings against repressive regimes

Later referred to mainland mobile phone knock-offs

Now applies to anything that is not original, authentic or professionally produced, such as a spoof of a movie or television news broadcast, a hoax version of an internet engine or even a fake city landmark
