Teacher developed fascination with subject she knew nothing about
After teaching for more than 20 years, Chee Wai-chi decided it was time to 'refresh' her knowledge.
'I was thinking about learning something new,' Ms Chee said. 'My husband was interested in anthropology. I wasn't really sure what it was. So I decided to look into it.'
With a bachelor of arts in English and a postgraduate diploma in education, Ms Chee decided to enrol in the MA programme at Chinese University. Studying part-time, she continued teaching during her first year. She quit during the second year so that she could devote more time to her studies.
'Initially, I was just doing this out of interest,' she said. 'After I started taking classes, I thought it was so interesting that I wanted to study full-time.'
Ms Chee enjoyed her master's so much that upon completion she enrolled in the anthropology department's PhD programme.
