The ever popular Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org), a free online encyclopedia run by the non-profit Wikimedia Foundation, is one of the pillars of Web 2.0 - along with video-sharing portal YouTube and social-networking sites MySpace and Facebook. Wikipedia is an invaluable reference source for many people at home, school and work. More than 275 million people visit the site every month without paying a cent and they are not bombarded by advertising. Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales (right) says that about US$6 million must be raised to cover the site's annual operating expenses. 'Like a national park or a school, we don't believe advertising should have a place in Wikipedia. We want to keep it free and strong but we need the support of thousands of people like you,' he says.
