Food-loving yet svelte model shows off culinary skills

Don't you hate it when fashion models talk about how they love to eat and their passion for food? You know their portion consists of one morsel and their culinary passion is probably more theory than practice. Stick-thin supermodel Gaile Lai Kei-yi tried to put the fat in kung hei fat choi on Monday afternoon, trying to convince everyone she was also a gourmand and kitchen goddess at a Pacific Place Lunar New Year marketing event. In addition to installing some decorative embroidered xiu qiu balls in the atrium that represent the rolling over of luck and prosperity, Lai was invited to model a few new Pucci designs and then concoct a festive snack, assisted by real chefs from the Ye Shanghai restaurant upstairs. The creations consisted of flour balls with taro, plus some abalone and chicken stuffing. Of course, she deep-fried them but didn't actually taste them herself.

'I stuff my face like a pig from Christmas until Lunar New Year, so I usually just hibernate during this time of year, pretty much staying at home and avoiding social events,' Lai said. Yeah, we can tell she really let herself go. Is she a size one now?

Later, she said she hoped one day to open her own restaurant. Of course, the press couldn't let Lai go without at least one question related to her boyfriend, Leon Lai Ming, currently starring in Forever Enthralled. When Lai said her Lunar New Year plans just consisted of visiting family, they asked whether that included Leon's parents. 'I don't know if I will get a chance to see them, but I will definitely be giving them a call.'
