The chief executive yesterday landed a few verbal blows of his own after his question-time session in the legislature was interrupted by lawmakers from the League of Social Democrats

Donald Tsang Yam-kuen seized the chance to make a brief speech addressing controversial behaviour by some legislators, after the second adjournment of the session.

'Hong Kong people advocate freedom and democracy, but these values are founded on mutual respect and tolerance,' he said.

'Legco should demonstrate its tolerance to allow more different voices. [Lawmakers] should not resort to violent language or even body movements. I believe that citizens will not accept radical and violent behaviour in Legco.'

The 90-minute session was continuously interrupted by League members making comments on statements by Mr Tsang they did not agree with.

League lawmaker 'Long Hair' Leung Kwok-hung was quickly into his stride, brandishing a large envelope accusing Mr Tsang of not doing his job. He was subsequently ejected, triggering the first adjournment.

'You're exactly the same as Tung Chee-hwa, and I watched him fall,' said Mr Leung, referring to Mr Tsang's predecessor, as he was escorted out.
