Singer-turned-actor Dicky Cheung Wai-kin, 43, married long-time girlfriend, actress Jess Zhang Qian, 34, in a lavish wedding at the prestigious San Agustin Cathedral in Manila on Monday.
The Catholic wedding was said to have cost the star of Journey to the West at least HK$5million, including flying his friends and family to the Philippines and providing accommodation at a five-star hotel for some 200 guests.
Attendees included newly-wed singer Edmond Leung Hon-man, Sammi Cheng Sau-man, Andy Hui Chi-on and William So Wing-hong, who came to witness the couple read their vows.
Zhang said it was her dream wedding. 'I had already experienced many Chinese-style weddings from the films I acted in, [so] as for my own, I didn't want to wear a red dress,' she said. 'I wanted it to be in a western style.'
The couple (left) have gone through some difficult times during their decade-long relationship. Last year they were devastated when Zhang lost their baby eight months into her pregnancy. Cheung said the pair were still recovering from their grief.
'Last year, we went through some very sad experiences,' Zhang said. 'This wedding will help us forget about our past sorrow and get on with our lives. To keep a relationship solid for 10 years is not easy. The key is to be persistent. Some people run away from problems, not realising they can be solved.'
