On style, she rules

I have had the same hairstyle for years and I'd like to change it. I'm thinking of getting a fringe (bangs, as the Americans call them) but before I do, I'd like to experiment with the 'faux fringe'/clip-on fringe that was all the rage with celebrities not long ago. Is there anywhere in Hong Kong that sells real hairpieces or wigs?

Getting Wiggy With It, Pok Fu Lam

The Dictator rules: Don't waste your time (or mine). A human-hair wig not only sounds weird, it will cost as much as the haircut, the re-cut of regret, and several appointments thereafter. The reputable Lily Wigs (room 703, 7/F, Carnarvon Plaza, 20 Carnarvon Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2367 4727) charges about HK$8,000 to HK$10,000 for fringed hairpieces. If you want to go the less costly route, a cheapo from Pottinger Street will more than do the trick. Jolly Wig Shop (32 Pottinger Street, Central, tel: 2525 1884) sells them for only HK$125. If you're a blonde, however, being the butt of silly jokes isn't your only problem. Most shops only carry brown tones and black. But still, it's only hair - brave the cut and deal with the consequences; it will grow back.

I'm looking for a full-skirted red coat. Not a pink kind of red but a bright red. I'm want the one Martine McCutcheon wore in Love Actually, preferably for less than HK$5,000. I don't want it to be too cutesie though, more lady-like and elegant-ish. Can you help? Red Actually, Tin Hau

The Dictator: In case you hadn't noticed, Love Actually is not a new film. It came out in 2003. And there's nothing full or flared about the skirt of said coat, either. And do you really think it would still be hanging around more than five years later? Your timing is not altogether tragic, though, since several brands seem to have festive red coats. On the cheap and cheerful side, bread n butter has a few red swing coats and trenches (about HK$799 to HK$1,499; shop 1, G/F, 9A Sharp Street East, Causeway Bay, tel: 2111 2760). The underrated Ports offers a lovely round-neck wool coat that flares out ever so slightly from the waist (HK$5,900; shop 1, G/F, 1 Hysan Avenue, Causeway Bay, tel: 2504 1902). At Fendi, it comes in the flirty form of a tomato-red cotton trench with full but short skirt (HK$12,800; G17 The Landmark, Central, tel: 2524 1339). Other brands to look at include See by Chloe and Marc by Marc Jacobs. And if you still want a Love Actually coat, the closest style can be found at Tommy Hilfiger (HK$4,590; shop B19, The Landmark, tel: 2525 8848).

I love wearing sparkly things. The Swarovski shop didn't seem to know what I was talking about and said they don't take orders. Tell me where I can get stuff crystallised? Crystal Palace, Discovery Bay
