The All-Hong Kong Schools Jing Ying Handball Tournament ended last Sunday at the Shek Kip Mei Park Sports Centre.
Ying Wah College won their third consecutive boys' title, while Shek Lei Catholic Secondary School clinched the girls' crown on their debut. Shek Lei's boys' team also made it into the final.
Ying Wah and Shek Lei fought a tight final match, but the Ying Wah boys won with their consistently strong performance.
Shek Lei's Leung Chi-sai was a pillar throughout the performance, but the opposition was too formidable.
'He put too much pressure on himself, which greatly affected his performance,' said Shek Lei's coach Wong To.
Wong said he had studied video clips of the previous match played by Ying Wah.
He admitted that the Ying Wah coach had a more dedicated pre-match plan than he did.
Meanwhile, Ying Wah's coach Pong Yiu-wing said his team won because of better defence and more experienced players.
'Shek Lei will be a very strong team when the players are more mature,' he said.
Eric Ha Ho-ying from Ying Wah College was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
'I have to thank my coach and teammates for trusting me and putting the focus of the match on me. My teammates did a great job to pass me the ball and help my attacks. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to get the MVP crown,' he said.
Shek Lei's winning girls' team were competing in the handball final for the first time. They shone on the court and beat far more experienced teams to take the title.
But coach Wong said it had not been an easy journey. He said he had applied the same training methods for the girls as he had for the boys.
'We don't have many players in the girls' handball teams ... Some of them are still young, but they are really tough. I believe they will form a mature and strong team in a year's time,' he said.
Girls' MVP Cathy Leung Sin-ying said her team performed well because they all wanted to win the championship.
'We have great morale and team spirit. After we opened up a lead, we were much more confident and played more smoothly,' Cathy said.
After leading his teams to gold and silver medals, coach Wong made the day even more remarkable by publicly proposing to his girlfriend.  She said: 'Yes.'
