A car show for all This year's MG Show will start at 12.30pm on February 22, on the waterfront of the Marine Police North Division Base at Ma Liu Shui, in Sha Tin, says the club's spokesman, Simon Clennell. 'Unlike many classic car shows around town, this is an event for all working MGs, whatever their condition,' says the MGB owner. 'Nor is participation limited to MG Car Club members. As long you have an MG in licensed and driveable condition, it will be welcome. Our objective is to get the biggest representative line-up of Hong Kong MGs out on parade that we can, from [the] TB through to [the] MGF.' The club also runs a concours with special prizes for paid-up members' best-preserved and restored cars such as the 1955 TF (below), 'but entry into the judging is not compulsory', Clennell says. 'Awards will be given for best bodywork, best interior, best engine compartment and chassis and overall best in show.' The club keeps a register of local MGs but Clennell says it is keen to discover and display models of which they were not previously aware. And he invites Footdown readers to help the club find an elusive classic. 'There is one particular car that I would love to [invite] to the show,' he says. 'It is a 1949 MG YA saloon that we understand was imported into Hong Kong from Britain this year. 'It's the only Y-type saloon in Hong Kong and it's been spotted a number of times in the Sha Tin area, often in use as a wedding car, but no one has yet managed to speak to the owner and find out his/her contact details.' The YA (above) seems pale grey in photographs, 'but apparently in the flesh it's a pinkish grey', Clennell says. If you see the classic, tell Footdown, or ask the owner to contact us on email@example.com . Non MG-owning guests are welcome to the show but car plates must be notified in advance to gain entry to the base, Clennell says. If you are not sure how to reach the venue, the club has arranged a pre-show drive, the first group of which meet at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, in Causeway Bay, at 10.30am; the second assembles at Kowloon Tong MTR at 10.40am. Then the groups 'meet up and drive at Tseung Kwan O and drive together via Sai Kung to Ma Liu Shui', Clennell says. Inquiries: e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or on 29667845 to register.
