James Taylor Covers (Hear Music) James Taylor's albums have mostly featured his own songs, but several of his biggest hits - You've Got a Friend and How Sweet it is to Be Loved By You among others - were compositions by other artists. This is his first collection entirely devoted to covers. Leonard Cohen's Suzanne is sandwiched between John Anderson's Seminole Wind and Leiber-Stoller's Hound Dog, the latter featuring echoes of both the Elvis Presley interpretation and Big Mama Thornton's original. Taylor always surrounds himself with first-class musicians, and there's some great playing, ranging from Michael Landau on guitar and Larry Goldings on keyboards to Yo-Yo Ma on cello. Different international releases feature different bonus tracks. In Hong Kong we get In the Midnight Hour and Knock on Wood.
