Liang Yusheng, pioneer of modern martial arts novels, dies
Liang Yusheng, the Chinese martial arts novelist who reinvented the genre for a modern audience, has died at the age of 85. Born to an educated family in Mengshan, Guangxi , Liang, whose real name was Chen Wentong, studied classical Chinese at a young age. After graduating from Lingnan University, he worked in Hong Kong for newspapers including Ta Kung Pao, publishing his first martial arts novel in 1954. His best-known works are The Romance of the White Haired Maiden and Seven Swords of Mount Heaven. Chen retired in 1983 and later moved to Sydney, where he suffered a stroke in 2007.
Driver bailed after fatal crash
Container-truck driver Law Siu-kuen, 41, who was charged with dangerous driving over a collision with a taxi in Lok Ma Chau on Friday that left its six occupants dead, has been freed on HK$50,000 bail.
