I AM currently teaching some Hong Kong Chinese students at the University of East Anglia in Norfolk, Britain, to drive. There is some concern however that, unless they remain in Britain for six months after they have passed the test, the Hong Kong authorities will not accept their International Driving Licence. During the past few years I have taught many students from Hong Kong and this is the first time I have heard of such restrictions. I requested information from the British licensing authorities a month ago, but have not yet received a reply. I would be very grateful if someone could tell me whether there are any penalties imposed on returning Hong Kong residents. R. J. MALLETT Norwich England
