The body of a 22-year-old woman missing for 10 days was found dumped in a drain near a Yuen Long roundabout yesterday, after police arrested and interrogated the chief suspect in her disappearance.
Chan Ka-yan disappeared after leaving her workplace in Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay, on January 21.
Police confirmed her body was found yesterday.
The suspect, a 37-year-old surnamed Li, was arrested in Ma On Shan on Friday, and was being still being held for questioning last night at Sha Tin police station.
Police suspect Li killed the woman after a dispute and dumped her body in the catchment drain at Ngau Tam Mei in Lok Ma Chau, near the Fairview Park housing estate. A preliminary investigation suggested the woman had not been killed where she was found.
A source said Li was Chan's former boyfriend.
After interrogating Li extensively, police officers from Sha Tin district crime squad began searching the catchment drain at about 2am yesterday and found the body, a police spokesman said.
