New season springs into colour

GREET the new season in vibrant jelly-bean colours, urges Walter Ma. Play it cool in discreet solids and checks, says William Tang.

Their palettes and fabrics may differ, but the two popular designers concur when it comes to the look for spring 94: slim and graceful, with the emphasis on long skirts and natural silhouettes.

Among Ma's temptations is a sheer, acid green A-line dress, with shoestring straps and asymmetric detail worn over a white shift; while Tang drapes and delineates to perfection with an off-the-shoulder check wrap-around.

Not for you? There will be plenty of alternatives tomorrow, when 11 top local designers and label producers, including Allan Chiu, Florence Tse and Lu Lu Cheung, join Ma and Tang for an afternoon tea show at the Gallery Cafe, at the Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Organised by the Trade Development Council's Design Gallery, the Spring Fashion Show will include casual co-ordinates and slick ensembles for the executive woman.

The show will be repeated on Friday at the Marriott Hotel's Lobby Lounge, also starting at 3.30 pm. Prices for the shows are $120 at the Gallery Cafe and $138 at the Marriott.

Reservations can be made by telephoning the venues, though the TDC warns bookings have been heavy.
