Reviews of new films & DVDs Many teenagers dream of heading off to college, but if parents are over-protective, overbearing, and not yet ready to let go of their child, it can be a nightmare. In College Road Trip, Melanie Porter (Raven-Symone) is a smart high school senior looking for a college that suits her interests and capabilities. She thinks Georgetown, thousands of kilometres across the country, could be perfect for her. But her dad James (Martin Lawrence) wants her to go to Northwestern University - his only criteria is to have Melanie close to home, and Northwestern is just a 30-minute drive away. When Melanie is invited to an interview at Georgetown, she decides to go on a girls-only road trip to check out her dream school. James agrees, but insists on accompanying her, and this gives Lawrence a chance to shine at what he does best: physical, slapstick comedy. James also insists she visit Northwestern, just to check it out. He hires people on the campus to tell his daughter how great the school is, but she sees through the tricks. He continues to make a fool of himself, getting his family lost in a forest and destroying their car along the way. But he also proves how much he loves his children, and learns to respect his daughter's decisions. Lawrence's hilarious antics and the Porters' pet pig Albert are the highlights of the movie, which is a fun film for all the family.
