BASKETBALL manager Ng See-yuen withdrew his threat to take civil action against Suntex expat player Dexter Boney for punching Seasonal guard Ng Chu-yip during the Senior Shield semi-final on Monday.
Veteran Hong Kong international Ng suffered a deep gash above his left eye after he was punched and was rushed by ambulance to hospital for treatment.
He was not hospitalised but was ordered by the doctor to rest for one week.
Seasonal boss Ng See-yuen said: ''The police told me we have every right to take civil action against Boney for assault occasioning actual bodily harm but we decided to let him off because Ng Chu-yip wasn't very seriously injured.
''I was very angry over the incident because Boney hit Ng when the game was already stopped and we shouldn't allow such behaviour on a basketball court.'' Ng See-yuen, however, wanted the Hong Kong Basketball Association to take stern action against Boney although a ban is unlikely to affect the American's opportunities of continuing his career outside of the territory.
HKBA senior sports executive Sam Ho Wai-hing said the matter would be referred to the association's disciplinary committee once the referee's report had been received.
