Fresh from winning yesterday's big race, Kenyan is now running after a bride
Kenya's Cyprian Kiogara Mwobi wants to cap off a great start to 2009 by getting married later this year.
Elated with winning the marathon and lifting the winner's purse of US$20,000, the men's champion said the main obstacle to his marital ambitions was that he did not have a girlfriend.
'I want to get married this year. But I'm still looking for a girl,' said Mwobi, dreaming of married bliss after he stormed to victory in the showpiece 42.2km classic.
Life was a bed of roses for the 30-year-old from Nairobi as he sped to victory in two hours, 14 minutes and 56 seconds. He and fellow countrymen John Chirchir (2:15:23) and Nelson Kirwa (2:16:16) had restored the natural order of things.
Mwobi was left a blushing bridesmaid 12 months ago when Japanese raider Koichiro Fukuoka pulled the rug from under the mighty Africans with a stunning win. The men from the highlands of Kenya made certain there was no repeat.
'Last year he [Fukuoka] shocked everyone. I was caught at the 40km mark on that occasion. But today I made sure no one would pass me,' the eligible bachelor said.
