Tony Leung Chiu-wai's new wing chun regimen startled his mother-in-law recently. Leung, 46, who married actress Carina Lau Ka-ling last July, has been training hard to prepare for his role as wing chun master Yip Man in Wong Kar-wai's new biopic. 'Carina's mum came over the other day and heard loud banging noises. I was practising stunts with a martial arts teacher. She looked very surprised, so I told her that filmmaking is serious stuff,' he said. Leung (right) said he had been training at least eight hours a day for the role. Filming is due to start in June in Hong Kong and on the mainland. Meanwhile, Mandarin Films also announced plans to make two sequels to its release Ip Man at around the same time, with Wilson Yip Wai-shun directing and Donnie Yen Ji-dan starring. They were ordered after the first film made more than HK$150 million. Leung was unfazed when asked if his portrayal of Yip Man might clash with Yen's, and made a humorous reference to the often lengthy nature of Wong's shoots, saying: 'I don't even know when filming on my movie will be completed ... They might have already released their film by then. 'Besides, I'm sure I won't fight as well as Yen Ji-dan, but I'll try my best to bring the audience a side of me they haven't seen before. I'm doing this as a new challenge, not to compete with anyone else.'
