While the chief executive may be hiring only a single extra chef in these troubled economic times, there are plenty of opportunities in the catering market, with the sector looking for people for about 2,000 positions. The Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants and Related Trades, in conjunction with the Labour Department, will host a job fair from tomorrow to February 27. It is understood 18 companies from across the catering industry will set up booths offering on-the-spot recruitment for the positions. It is not just chefs who should apply. Jobs on offer cover the entire spectrum of the industry from front-of-house people, such as receptionists and cashiers, to cooks and packers. The positions range from entry level to managerial. Most of the vacancies are full-time and require a Form 5 education or below. Salaries from HK$6,000 to HK$12,000 are being offered for the posts. The fair will be held at the Recruitment Centre for the Catering Industry at Revenue Tower, Gloucester Road, in Wan Chai.
