Tourist trap

HONG Kong benefits greatly from tourist income.

Now the Budget proposes to raise heavily the duties on average drinks but slash the airport tax by two thirds.

Is the Government trying to say to the tourist: you are welcome to leave but not to stay? Statistics published yesterday show Taiwanese and Japanese tourists spent the most in Hong Kong. They incidentally do appreciate a glass of wine.

Let's get them to stay one more day.
