1. Ace of Spades - Motorhead One of my favourite songs ever! Back in the 1970s and 80s when metal riffs and solos were poetic and operatic in some cases, you had a more raw and rugged band in the form of Motorhead.
2. The Four Horsemen - Metallica The ultimate metal band. I was listening to bootlegs and anything we could get at the time it came out in 1983, the beginning of thrash metal. This was the first song I sang live with my high school band.
3. Cowboys from Hell - Pantera In the late 1980s when most metal bands were heading towards metal hell and with grunge on the horizon, glam rock outfit Pantera took it back to basics. Cowboys from Hell kept me interested in metal when bands like Nirvana busted out.
4. I'm the Man - Anthrax Anthrax are the thrash kings.
5. Angel of Death - Slayer I get whiplash when I listen to this track. The riff is iconic. My family know this song as noise, but for me it was a great release for pent-up youthful energy.
