Aniki & Micchi Hong Kong Live 2009 (Concert)

It's been nearly two years since anison (anime + song) singers Ichiro Mizuki (Aniki) and Mitsuko Horie (Micchi) were in Hong Kong for the Anime Japan Fes in HK 2007, a two-night concert. On February 7, the pair returned for Aniki & Micchi Hong Kong Live 2009, a special one-off show.

Otakus of all ages came to see the concert, the youngest being a toddler who accompanied his otaku father. They came from all corners of the globe, with fans journeying from as far as Australia and Canada.

A packed house rocked to the theme songs from Maringer Z, Voltes V, Combattler V, Kamen Rider, Captain Harlock, Cross Fight! and Candy Candy.

While the night was mainly about music, Aniki showed off his comic skills, making the crowd roar with laughter at his cute comedy antics.

The event enabled fans to interact with their heroes. At the start of the show, a group of lucky fans won autographed cards. After the concert, a lucky draw was held and 25 concert-goers were invited to stay for a special fan meet-and-greet session with the two anison legends.

When asked if they had ever thought they would be performing internationally, Aniki said it had been a childhood dream to go to the US to record music. But neither of them ever foresaw the sort of international acclaim they have enjoyed, and are happy anime has given them such a great life.
