Now that 50,000 of you are all warmed up and in shape after the Hong Kong Marathon, how about signing up for the Beat the Banana charity run for the World Cancer Research Fund. Now going into its fourth year, the race on the Tsim Sha Tsui promenade - sponsored by The Mix - is divided into a competitive 5km elite run and a 3km relaxed, fun jaunt competing against a guy in a banana suit who gets a head start. The run is on Sunday, March 1, but the deadline for registration is this Friday. If doing some good and getting some exercise are not enough motivation, consider that the male and female winners of the local 5km race also win a Virgin Atlantic flight to London with three nights' accommodation so they can compete in the Beat the Banana run in Hyde Park. However, even if you don't win or cross the line before the big yellow mascot, all runners will receive a stylish T-shirt, a finisher's medal, a goody bag, plus plenty of smoothies and refreshments from The Mix. This year's man in the banana is last year's Fun Run winner, Wong Wing-tak, who completed the race in 10 minutes. The entry form is available at www. en.wcrf-hk.org/how_can_i_help/beat_the_banana.
