In the movie Forrest Gump, Tom Hanks plays a man with low IQ but tremendous talent at playing table tennis. Such stories can be true in life.
Mok Chi-sing, a 15-year-old secondary school student, is the Forrest Gump of Hong Kong - intellectually challenged but a genius at table tennis.
Chi-sing, a Form Three student at Saviour Lutheran School, is a member of the Hong Kong Table Tennis Squad under the Hong Kong Sports Association for the Mentally Handicapped.
He won three gold medals in the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Shanghai and a silver medal at the Fifth Table Tennis World Championships hosted by the International Sports Federation for People with an Intellectual Disability's (INAS-FID) in Chiba, Japan last year.
'When I came from the mainland five years ago, I couldn't adapt to life in Hong Kong and didn't dare to interact with others. Table tennis changed my life. I became more cheerful and active after playing table tennis. I love to play because I feel successful when I win,' says Chi-sing.
He says his most memorable trip was to Shanghai to take part in the Special Olympics in 2007.
'The performances at the games' opening and closing ceremonies were breathtaking.'
