THE Yuen Long Junior Police Call won the overall championship of the JPC Mini-Olympics athletic meet, topping the winners' list with 13 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the staff officer of Community Relations, Superintendent Lam Kah-chiu, said: ''This annual event is aimed at promoting sports and, most important of all, sportsmanship among JPC members.'' Apart from congratulating the winners, Mr Lam also encouraged those who were not successful this time to train harder for next year.
Over 800 JPC members took part in this year's championships. They were divided into three categories according to age to compete in more than 40 events.
In the finals, athletes managed to break records in the men's 400 m and 200 m and the women's shot put.
The Police Public Relations Branch team won applause from all when they won the tug-of-war for the third consecutive year.
This year's Mini-Olympics also included basketball, football and table-tennis competitions.
