Woman dies after burning charcoal

A 72-year-old woman died and her daughter, 39, was in critical condition after they burned charcoal in their Wong Tai Sin home yesterday. Neighbours on the Choi Wan Estate called police at about 1am after smelling smoke. Firefighters found the pair next to a stove. The old woman was declared dead at United Christian Hospital, while the daughter's left hand, which was badly burned, had to be amputated.
