Three former unionist lawmakers have been invited to join the body that will advise the government on an appropriate level for a statutory minimum wage.
A source familiar with the situation said Lau Chin-shek, Kwong Chi-kin and Lee Kai-ming were among the 13 members of the Provisional Minimum Wage Commission which comprises representatives from the labour sector, business community, academia and officials.
The government is expected to announce the commission lineup as early as today.
Other commission members include Caroline Mak Sui-king, chairwoman of the Hong Kong Retail Management Association, and permanent secretary for labour and welfare Paul Tang Kwok-wai.
The commission will advise the administration on the appropriate level of a statutory minimum wage and the mechanism for reviewing the wage level.
Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen announced in his policy address in October that the government would introduce a cross-sector minimum wage. The administration said it would table a bill on a statutory minimum wage in the current legislative session.
