Researchers given HK$5  for Alzheimer's study
The Research Grants Council has awarded HK$5 million to City University for its research into the family life  of patients  with Alzheimer's disease.  The research will track  caregivers in 300 families  which have members afflicted with the disease for 30 months, with the aim of  lessening the pressure facing caregivers. 
Plan to cut campus food waste
Greeners Action has launched a campaign to reduce food waste on campuses in collaboration with the Vocational  Training Council. The VTC's Institute of Vocational Education, School of Business and Information Systems and Youth College  have pledged to promote responsible eating habits. 
Experts discuss pollution effects
Environmental experts  converged at Baptist University yesterday to discuss the risks to public health posed by persistent organic pollutants .  Chemistry department head,  Cai Zongwei, presented a report on how the issue affected the region. 
Marketing-Net degree launched
City University has launched a new degree programme in marketing information management, starting this September. Students taking the bachelor of business administration in marketing information management  will be taught how to harness online opportunities for marketing purposes. 
Visiting fellow invited
Chinese University's Chung Chi College has invited  Ng Cheuk-Yiu from University of California to serve as a visiting fellow. Currently at CUHK,  Professor Ng will stay until next month. 
HKUST appoints business dean
Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has announced the appointment of  Leonard Cheng Kwok-hon  as dean of its School of Business and Management. Professor Cheng has been the acting dean for the past  20 months. 
BaptistU rewards long-term staff
Baptist University has presented long-service awards to 131  staff members and teachers in recognition of their contributions.  Five teaching staff were awarded outstanding performance awards for their academic achievements. 
Outstanding students honoured
Six students at Polytechnic University beat candidates from various disciplines to win the award for outstanding student of the year. Final-year civil engineering major Liu Man-kit was crowned the most outstanding PolyU student.
