Much more than fight scenes
If you think this is just another martial arts movie, think again. Ip Man is the story of renowned kung fu master Yip Man, perhaps best known for his famous student Bruce Lee.
As well as being the first martial arts teacher to openly teach wing chun, he was also something of a hero during the second war world, fighting the Japanese.
This movie describes how Yip Man fought his way from obscurity to redeeming Foshan's honour against Japanese general Miura, played by the talented actor Hiroyuki Ikeuchi in his first international role.
Unlike many kung fu movies, this is not just about how well the characters fight, but a stunning visual interpretation of what the Chinese martial art is really about.
Yen plays Master Yip to perfection - his slender figure and suave manner making him more charming and endearing than most characters played by better internationally known kung fu stars like Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
As well as explaining Yip Man's life, lows and loves (including his wife, played by mainland model Lynn Hung), the film exposes the raw power of the martial art, and the bravery and dignity of the Chinese people during the war.
