3 men arrested, 119 smuggled lizards found in Tung Chung
Marine police arrested three men and seized 119 smuggled lizards worth about HK$120,000 during an operation with customs in Tung Chung yesterday. At about 7pm, police and customs officers spotted five men unloading goods from a van on the shore near the eastern side of Chek Lap Kok. A speedboat approached and two men onboard began to load the goods onto it. When officers moved in, the two men from the speedboat and two men unloading goods from the van jumped onto the boat and sped away. The three remaining men tried to escape but were caught. The men, aged between 15 and 44, were arrested for assisting in the export of undocumented cargo. The four men in the speedboat escaped.
Sing Pao staff 'face pay cut'
Workers from the Chinese-language newspaper Sing Pao Daily News would be forced to take pay cuts of 5 per cent to 20 per cent from today, a source at the paper said. The cuts will vary according to the level of each employee's salary. The company's management could not be reached for comment.
21-year-old fights off attackers
A man, 21, fought off three youths who attacked him with bottles and tried to take his bag in Quarry Bay Park near Tai Hong Street, Lei King Wan, just before midnight on Friday. The man suffered cuts to his left ear and was treated at Eastern Hospital. Police said the three male attackers fled empty-handed and were in their 20s.
