For Sarah, success may mean achieving top marks in her music exam. For Oliver, success could mean being able to work with animals. Success means different things to different people. A key ingredient to success is setting and achieving your goals.

Write it down

Capture your thoughts and ideas about things you want to be, do and have. Do you want to be a musician? Write it down. Do you want to get accepted into the best university in the country? Write it down.

You can use a notebook to capture your wishes and wants, or, start a dream list file on the computer. Each day, you can note on a small card or in your diary the things that come to mind, and you can transfer them to your dream list or electronic file.

Get specific and be realistic

It is good to have dreams of things you want to do in life, but to succeed, you need to turn those dreams into specific and realistic goals. 'I am going to talk to someone new each day' is much more practical than 'I want to be more confident'.
