Yet another CD opportunity for local alt-rockers

Remember those things called compact discs that people used to buy and listen to? Well, it seems some people still put out recordings on this ancient format. Local alt-rock presenter The Underground has thus far compiled two CDs of local bands - the first came out last September and the second is being prepared for a May release - and already its indie impresario and former Sisters of Sharon singer Chris Bowers (known around town simply as Chris B) is planning a third.

She's putting a call out for more energetic and creative rockers to participate in the next compilation. 'We want bands of the alternative genre, and priority will be given to bands who have performed or who will be performing in The Underground,' explained Bowers (pictured), who's also an organiser of the Thinking Out Loud poetry-reading events.

She is looking for groups that aren't already featured on the first two CDs. For consideration, they must be original tracks. If your demo recording is accepted, The Underground will invite your band to record at the Mark 1 Studios. All expenses will be covered and the bands will receive a limited number of copies. Forward submissions to [email protected]. The deadline is April 30.

The Underground is also working on a T-shirt design competition where the winning look will be printed on shirts sold to raise money for charity. You can contact Chris B for more info on that as well at the e-mail address above.
