Bank robber gone in 20 seconds
A man stole HK$76,300 from a Tung Chung bank after he leaped onto the teller's counter, climbed over a glass partition through a gap at the top, grabbed the cash from an unlocked drawer and fled - all in under 20 seconds.
Police are still looking for the robber, who wore sunglasses, a dark woollen hat and carried a shoulder bag at the Shanghai Commercial Bank in Mei Tung Road at 3.15pm.
There were only about 10 customers and staff inside at the time and no security guards.
'The man jumped onto the 1-metre-high counter and then climbed over the glass partition through a space at the top,' a police source said.
'Behind the counter, the robber opened an unlocked drawer and snatched about HK$80,000. He then unlocked a door and ran out from the counter.'
A male employee gave chase, but he got away. No one was injured.
'His action was fast. I think the holdup took less than 20 seconds,' the source said.
About 50 officers from the Police Tactical Unit and the Emergency Unit mounted a search and conducted door-to-door inquiries. The fugitive is about 1.7 metres tall and described as of ample build.
A bank spokeswoman would not comment on the case because it was under investigation.
Police are studying footage from the bank's surveillance network.
