The master of nursing science (pre-registration), offered by Chinese University, is a new three-year, full-time programme for those who want to become registered nurses and have a bachelor's degree in a field other than nursing. The three year programme begins in August and consists of eight terms and four clinical practice blocks. Completion will enable students to work in acute care hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals and community facilities. The university is introducing its doctor of nursing programme in September. The aim of the four-year, part-time clinically based programme is to provide registered nurses working in advanced clinical specialist roles the knowledge and skills to undertake innovative approaches to nursing practice and to promote high quality patient care.
Hong Kong Polytechnic University
Bachelor of science (hons) in mental health nursing offered by Polytechnic University is a new four-year, full-time programme starting in September. The programme expects to draw mainly secondary school graduates and will train registered nurses to provide care to institutionalised patients and to those in the community.

Doctor of nursing programme for advanced practice nurses will be introduced by the University of Hong Kong, subject to university approval, in September. 'Professional practice is becoming so complex that we want to keep up with the challenges of providing health care in a fast changing world,' said Agnes Tiwari, associate professor and assistant dean in the department of nursing. 'We also want our graduates to be able to influence health policy. The advanced graduate training will give students the knowledge, skills and language to be able to tell policymakers where the deficits are.' The four-year full-time or six-year part-time programme is open to experienced nurses with a master's degree in nursing.
