Coach Leslie Santos bid farewell to Convoy Sun Hei after leading the side to a 6-0 hammering of NTR WoFoo Tai Po in the League Cup quarter-finals at Mong Kok Stadium yesterday. Marksman Giovane da Silva scored a hat-trick, including a penalty in the first half, while Carlos dos Santos, Lo Chi-kwan and Wilfed Bamnjo were also on target. Santos said he was leaving the team to concentrate on running the soccer school he set up in 2005. 'This is not a sudden decision,' said Santos, who joined Sun Hei 11 years ago, first as a player and then as coach. 'I informed the management of my decision in January as I want to focus on running my school. We are trying to find our own pitch and that takes time and effort.' The diminutive player (pictured) was ranked as one of the best footballers in Hong Kong during his days with South China in the late 1980s. Despite the departure of Santos, Sun Hei still have two coaches - former Hong Kong internationals Chan Fat-chi and Yan Lik-kin. They will now take on Kitchee, who beat Fourway 5-3 in a penalty shootout after the match ended goalless. 'We dominated possession, but just could not find a way to break down their stubborn defence,' said club president Ken Ng Kin. 'It will be a different story against Sun Hei, they won't put all their players in defence like Fourway did.'
