Students from Lok Sin Tong Yu Kan Hing Secondary School will stage an English musical this week as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations.
More than 100 Form One to Form Seven students will be involved in The Wondrous Taste of Life. It will be staged at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University's Jockey Club Auditorium on Friday and Saturday. Like many local schools, Lok Sin Tong is using music and drama to boost its students' English skills.
The Wondrous Taste of Life is an original musical, with lyrics, melodies and animation created by the staff and students, according to the school's English panel head, Almas Choi Siu-ping.
The performance draws on the talents of the school's English, art, music and technology departments to provide an entertaining show, Ms Choi said.
The story, which takes place in 2109, aims to convey an important message to the audience.
One hundred years from now, people are living in such an advanced and competitive world that food has been replaced by a substance called 'SV'. This is mainly because it takes too much time and effort to prepare food.
People no longer remember the taste of real food and no one talks about food safety. One day, three young scientists find themselves in the past - a time of growing, harvesting and cooking - and their adventure begins.
